Building on the recent publication of Doing Media Research (Stevenson and Kavka 2025), this workshop-style masterclass is devoted to reflecting on the fundamentals of idea-driven media research, and applying this knowledge in peer-review. As preparation, students will read several chapters from the book and submit a +/-1200 word assignment describing their research proposal or work-in-progress. By re-conceptualizing fundamentals such as the research question, methodology and analysis, students will gain new perspective on the nature of our interdisciplinary field. By putting this knowledge into practice through peer-review, students will be more prepared not only to improve their own research but to take on a more active role in various academic and educational contexts.
