Inaugurele rede dr. Damian Trilling (Vrije Universiteit)

July 3, 2025/in RMeS News /by Chantal

Datum: vrijdag 12 september 2025 om 15.45 uur precies
Locatie: Vrije Universiteit – Aula, De Boelelaan 1105, Amsterdam

(“You might like this one as well: Why changing journalism needs more creative journalism studies”)

During the inaugural lecture, Damian Trilling will sketch the challenges and opportunities that are inherent to the rapid changes journalism is undergoing: The increasing role of algorithmic systems like recommender systems, the use of so-called artificial intelligence, the rise of platforms, but also changing news consumption patterns in general. He will argue how this calls for more creative journalism studies: developing innovative methods that are appropriate to study these new phenomena, bridge gaps between qualitatiative, traditional quantitative, and computational methods – but also focusing on building and creating. Building on a wide range of examples of such creative approaches to journalism studies, he will outline a theoretical and methodolical research agenda for the next years – one that, by design, needs to remain open for creative changes along the way.
