RMeS Winter School 2012 – Media/History
The RMeS Winter School 2012 will discuss issues in Media History and Media Historiography in a series of seminars and workshop sessions for Research Master students and PhD students. For the seminar sessions students will receive reading assignments, for the workshop sessions they will prepare short papers relating their own research interest to the topic of the Winter School and the readings.
For participation in and preparation of the Winter School RMA and PhD students will receive 5 ECTS. To bring this in line with the modules of their respective home universities they can either do supplementary work assigned by the Winter School or do an individual assignment within their own program.

Monday and Tuesday: Seminars for Research Master students (exact order to be announced)
- Models of Media Historiography
- Histories of Media Technologies
- Social Histories of Media
- Comparative Studies in Media History / Intermediality
- Media Networks
During the three workshop sessions, students will give presentations in which they discuss the historical dimension of their own object of research. What kinds of historicizing do they need to do in order to frame their object.
Wednesday will start with a presentation for both RMA and PhD students on AV archives in the Netherlands with a focus on ongoing projects of digitization.
In the afternoon there will be a lecture by an international guest speaker (to be announced)

Friday: Seminar “Historicizing Media”
During the workshop sessions, PhD students will give presentations reflecting upon the way in which they historicize their object and/or what historiographical approaches they use. These will then be discussed in the group.
